
Water supply and sanitation affect broad areas of human life .The provision of adequate water supply and sanitation services plays a crucial role in preventive health care and is more generally a pre-requisite and indicator for socio-economic development. Access to drinking water is also a basic amenity, ranked among the highest priority public services by Rwanda’s population. It reduce time spent on fetching water and has a positive impact on School attendance, in particular for girls.
Woman’s life is strongly affected by unsafe, distant water supply and poor sanitation as woman are generally responsible for water collection and handling, for household hygiene and caring of the sick. Also improved access to drinking water impact strongly on woman economic development as it released them to participate in other economic opportunities that generate more income for themselves and the entire family, rather than spending a large part of their day’s time fetching water from distant place.
Due to the prevalence of hygiene related illnesses in Rwanda, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects are of the utmost important in rural communities.
In order to increase the availability of water supply systems and sanitation service; in collaboration with involved partners and local authorities, EWB-Rwanda was involved and commuted to provide technical support and help the communities how the implemented projects should be sustainably maintained on time with reasonable cost.
